Homes For Our Troops is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to building mortgage-free, specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, with nearly 90 cents of every dollar donated going directly to program services.
HFOT operates nationally, however there are many housing projects in Florida: Injured Veteran Adapted Housing in Florida | Helping those who served.
HFOT exists to restore independence, mobility, and quality of life for Veterans severely injured in combat. The organization’s primary goal is to build and donate specially adapted homes nationwide, tailored to each Veteran’s unique needs, so they can rebuild their lives, focus on family and recovery, and regain self-sufficiency. HFOT serves Veterans who have sustained life-altering injuries, including multiple limb amputations, paralysis, blindness, severe burns, and traumatic brain injuries. By providing a home designed for their mobility and accessibility requirements, HFOT enables Veterans to regain freedom, pursue careers, complete education, and engage with their communities. Veterans choose where to live, allowing them to remain close to family, medical care, and support networks. The organization stays engaged after home delivery, offering three years of financial planning, homeownership education, warranty coverage, and peer mentoring.
There are volunteer opportunities for our Assembly. HFOT coordinates with additional nonprofits, corporations, and government programs to provide employment, education, and health resources, empowering Veterans to thrive long-term.
The organization is publicly funded, primarily through individual donors, foundations, community fundraisers, and corporate support. HFOT consistently earns high ratings from Charity Navigator, Charity Watch, and the Better Business Bureau, reflecting their financial integrity and commitment to accountability.
Over 420 specially adapted homes have been built for eligible Veterans nationwide.
In summary, HFOT’s purpose and mission focus on rebuilding the lives of severely injured Veterans through tailored housing, ongoing support, and prudent use of donor funds, making it a highly effective and trusted nonprofit in the veteran support community.
